Workshop with BGC at the Google HQ in NYC

Next month, we are really excited to run our first SmartGurlz workshop with Black Girls Code in the Google HQ in New York City.

We will be bringing our Siggy coding robots and our dolls of color – Maria and Zara for a day of fun, coding and missions.

Our app, SugarCoded uses our version of Google Blockly in a fun and intuitive way to teach girls that the ‘blocks’ link together to make writing code easier, and generates JavaScript.

While the workshop is now sold-out, we hope that this is just the beginning and we will be able to host even more programs with BGC and other organizations focused on gender diversity is tech.

We are starting a waiting list for our next event, in the meanwhile, join us on Facebook:

BGC is an amazing organization that plans to increase the number of women of color in the digital space. They empower girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.

BGC aims to provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.

SmartGurlz is really excited about the collaboration and looking forward to meeting tons of young women who will be leaders of tomorrow.
